Update on River East Resettlement Alliance

The RERA group had a very busy fall!  The triplet daughters of our Syrian refugee family started at CCSU in September (after graduating from Manchester High with high honors!).  Since their lease was up in Manchester, they decided to move closer to CCSU for the girls.  After much searching, in mid-October they finally moved into a new apartment in New Britain.  They have settled in and the girls had a successful first semester.  Although we are still assisting this family, RERA is looking for new members with the hopes of assisting a second refugee family.  You can read more about RERA below.

St. James’ has helped to form a Co-Sponsorship group (RERA) which is made up of multiple faith communities and other organizations in the Glastonbury/Manchester area working together to plan for, welcome, and resettle refugee families.  RERA comprises many committees including Healthcare, Finance, Education, Apartment Set Up, Fundraising, Employment, and Transportation. St. James’ has several people volunteering on RERA committees.

Currently, RERA is working with a family from Syria.  They have been settled in Manchester and are doing extremely well.  RERA is helping the family with learning English, has found employment for the Dad, has enrolled three teens in high school,  and so much more.  RERA will likely resettle another family in the future and will need additional volunteers to support this effort.
