Glastonbury Links Together

Glastonbury Links Together (GLT) has announced the opening of the new Self Service Food Pantry.  It was funded  with grants that they obtained for this use.  Clients make an appointment, go in and get to choose their food.    It is no longer just dry goods.  We were also able to purchase refrigeration so that they will be able to offer milk, eggs, cheese, meat, etc.  They also intend to offer fresh produce.  The GLT is very excited to see this come to fruition.  Half of the food stuffs that is collected at St. James' will go to the Food Bank.

For those that do not know, the GLT was formed by four clergy in a response to the shutdown and found a way to help.  At first they did a huge food drive, then followed-up with gift cards to add to the ones that were being provided by the town for the clients.  The four were Rev. Denise, Rev. Cheryl (St. Mark’s), Rev. Larissa (South Congregational), and Rabbi Kari (Kol Haverim). GLT has grown to include other faith communities and others.

Glastonbury Links Together (GLT )  is a group of faith based organizations in Glastonbury who came together to “change what it means to be poor in Glastonbury”.  The mission of GLT to date has primarily been to address food insecurity in town.  Current initiatives include providing food to elementary school children via the weekend “Backpack” program and supplementing the Town’s Food Bank program with gift card donations.  St. James’ supports GLT with both volunteers and donations.
