On July 1st, 2007 St. James' Episcopal Church of Glastonbury had a ground breaking ceremony for the church's extensive renovations. Joining the St. James' congregation were several town officials, elected leaders, and Bishop Dr. Laura Ahern.
In a capital campaign held during the winter of 2006, the community of St. James' raised over $1.6 million for the purpose of improving various aspects of the existing building so that their ministries and facilities will be both more appealing and more easily accessed.
These improvements include: Constructing a new foyer on the south side, with an elevator that will make all church floors more accessible; a second floor space which will add 960 square feet making additional room available for the growing needs of the Christian education & music programs; bringing all church buildings up to current life safety and fire codes; expanding sacristy space and adding new restrooms; remodeling the kitchen to improve services for the congregation as well as outreach programs; redesign of parking area and landscaping which will improve accessibility and create more visibility for the church on Main Street.
