Stewardship Print Email

Stewardship is simply the opportunity to give of one's time, talent, and treasure. At whatever level and form you give, one thing is certain: in giving, you will receive. Simply in giving one may provide light and hope to those in darkness and despair which will gladden the heart beyond understanding.

At Saint James' there are many opportunities to give of your time and talent to do the work Jesus Christ asks of us. Many ministries are described throughout this web site under worship, share the faith, pastoral care, outreach, and Christian education. St. James' encourages parishioners to participate in any way their time and talents dictate.

In addition to your time and talents, there are three principal ways to give financially in gratitude for the gifts the church has given to you and your family and in support of Saint James' vision for the future.

   1. There is ordinary giving. That is giving through plate contributions and through pledging to the annual stewardship appeal.
   2. There is extraordinary giving. This consists of contributions to the current capital campaign for the renovations/expansion of the church and/or perhaps to other capital needs not covered by annual giving such as; extraordinary unanticipated repair to the church, organ repair, contribution to build up the church's endowment, or to establish an endowment for a specific purpose such as outreach, music or pastoral care.
   3. Finally, there is ultimate giving. This type of giving ensures the future of the church after your death. It may be as simple as leaving a bequest to Saint James' through your will. The other broad category of ultimate giving is a planned gift in the form of a charitable trust or annuity. Planned giving may sound complicated, and for most of us it is, but that doesn't mean you have to have a working knowledge of how to make it happen. Your attorney or estate planner can help you, or Saint James' can put you in touch with qualified professionals
