Pastoral Care PDF Print Email

There are several wonderful ministries at St. James' whose goal is to extend Christ's love and provide emotional, physical, and spiritual support to those in need of pastoral care.

The Care Committee provides pastoral care in a variety of ways - a meal, a caring note, a visit, and a ride to a doctor's appointment are a few examples. This ministry helps parishioners to know that they are part of the larger community of St. James'.

The Prayer Chain offers special prayers for those in need.church members, family, friends, or anyone else who is searching for the guidance, healing, or support of Christ. Requests for prayer are kept private and confidential and not discussed outside the group. The members of this ministry turn to Christ in prayer, in communion with each other and in their own private moments.

The Shawl Ministry provides beautiful handmade shawls, lap robes, and baby blankets that symbolize the warmth and support of Christ through the St. James' community. Once made, they are blessed during one of our church services. These items are given in times of celebration (e.g. birth of a new baby) and in times of grief or suffering (e.g. a death, an illness) so that parishioners and their families know that they are in the hearts of those at St. James'.

The Welcoming/Newcomer's Committee welcomes new members and potential members and visitors to the community of St. James'. They help to link new and potential members to the parish and to the various services and programs offered here at St. James'. Those involved in this ministry may serve as greeters during our church services or participate in shepherding those who are interested in learning more about our wonderful community here at St. James'.

If you are in need of any of these services, or if you know of someone who needs them, please contact the office or the clergy. Also, if you would like to serve on one of these committees, please contact the St. James' office or the clergy. We are always looking for individuals willing to give of their time and talent. Lastly, we encourage you to suggest improvements to current services or new avenues for providing pastoral care to the community of St. James'.
