Welcome to the community of St. James’ Episcopal Church. We have two special events this month. Please join us!
Sunday, January 22, is “Recovery Sunday” and is observed throughout the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut. This year, we are fortunate to have the Reverend Lynne E. Jones, chaplain at the Hanley Center, an addiction recovery center in West Palm Beach, Florida, preach at both morning services (8:00 and 10:15) at St. James’. She will also join Rev. Amanda and the High School Formation group the evening of January 22 to address addiction and recovery with our youth.
Sunday, January 29 we will celebrate with a South African Liturgy. During the months that have 5 Sundays, our worship commission plans a “different” kind of worship service. On Sunday January 29, at both morning services (8:00 and 10:15), we shall worship together using a liturgy from one of the churches in the Anglican Communion. Our worship commission has chosen South Africa for this 5th Sunday. The choirs will perform special music, including new anthems and service music. We’ll even have a guest drumming group, since drumming is a fundamental part of the South African culture. In order to prepare you for this Sunday, we’ll learn about South Africa from different perspectives during our Wednesday night adult formation gatherings on January 11(health care), 18 (the Church), and 25 (travel) from 7:00-8:30.
Anyone is welcome to join us at any of these offerings!
It is our mission to grow spiritually and to spread the love of Christ. Whoever you are, and wherever you are on your faith journey, we welcome you! We are diverse in age, but strong in Spirit. We have different beliefs about God and the Church. We come from various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and towns. Our family compositions aren’t all the same and we celebrate our diversity.
We honor the dignity of every human being, offer pastoral care, and prayers for one another. We try to speak the truth in love, and listen to what the Spirit is saying to God’s people. We feel our strengths lie in the areas of worship, Christian education, and fellowship. We're eager to welcome guests and help newcomers find a comfortable place in the life of our community. Please let any of the clergy, staff, or lay leaders know how we might help you to grow spiritually and spread Christ’s love. Welcome!
